No family visa cancellation required for job change in UAE

Expatriates changing their jobs in UAE will no longer be required to cancel visas of the family members under their sponsorship. However, they have to deposit a bank guarantee of 5,000 dirhams ($136) for each family member with the Department of Naturalisation and Residency (NRD), a 'Khaleej Times' report said quoting official sources.

The applicant can get the bank guarantee refunded once he obtains the new residency permit and the residence visas of his family members and sponsored ones will be automatically transferred to him without paying any new fees.

"The employee or resident must apply to the NRD (before the cancellation procedure) for not cancelling the visas of members of his family or those under his sponsorship.

He should attach the 5,000 dirhams bank guarantee, the new employment permit issued by the Ministry of Labour to the new sponsor, and the job offer letter from the new employer," Major-General Nasser Al Menhali, Acting Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Naturalisation, Residency and Exit Affairs, told the newspaper.

He said the latest arrangement is being made with a view to streamlining procedures for expatriate residents without adding to their financial burdens.

According to the report, the Ministry found that many residents cancelled residence visas of their families and sent them home when they cancelled their own visas even though they have applied for new job visas.

based on the news above, what i understand is a new employment permit from the labor ministry is to be produced, but my question is employment permit is only given once a person's visa is cancelled. so if a visa is cancelled then doesn't whoever (i.e. wife/children) is under that person's sponsorship is also automatically cancelled?? can anyone help me understand the system a bit more properly please?

recently i'm facing this dilemma. my old company will cancel my visa as i have a new job. but PRO is saying i have to cancel my wife's visa first. i went to immigration in AUH to ask about alternatives. what they said is i need new employment permit from MoL. when i inquired with my new company PRO, he said i have to cancel my visa first then only they can apply for employment permit. i'm not getting the clear picture here because my old company PRO is demanding that i cancel my wife's visa 1st, then only they'll proceed to cancel my visa. can anyone provide some helpful details regarding this matter please???? it's delaying my job switching so any help is much appreciated. Regards

Hi,
Please note most of the PROs not updating their knowledge or not refering the rules. It is very clear that employee have to deposit a bank guarantee of 5,000 dirhams ($136) for each family member with the Department of Naturalisation and Residency (NRD.
He should attach the 5,000 dirhams bank guarantee, the new employment permit issued by the Ministry of Labour to the new sponsor, and the job offer letter from the new employ.
Please visit immigration and clarify your issue
Regards

hi,
to follow up on my previous comment (see Mahboobur), my previous company cancelled my visa without me cancelling my wife's visa first. i don't know how, but i was unable to pay AED 5000 to hold my wife's visa cancellation (as my new company PRO didn't get Labour Approval by the time my old company cancelled my visa). so my question is as my visa is cancelled & i didn't pay 5000, is my wife's visa automatically cancelled?? my present company PRO (who has got labor approval for me a few days back & amazed that my visa is cancelled)says that my wife's visa is not yet cancelled. i am confused! can anyone shed some light in this matter???

A friend of mine had joined a company where he did not sign a contract yet, but had to travel for the visa change process after a month of joining. He stayed in his home country for 2 months and kept asking when his visa will be issued but the company gave no response, finally he came back on a visit visa and went to the company where they said to resume work the visa will be issued. Meanwhile he hadapplied for other jobs and he got a job so he left his previous company and joined the new company but till then the visa was issued but not stamped on his passport, now he is requesting his old employer to cancel the visa as he doses not wants to continue with them but they are resusing to do so they asked for a fee of 15000 dhs which he is ready to pay but they are just delaying for no reason his visit visa is expiring on 11th april after 2 months his new company cannot issue him a visa.
He went to the labour office and they asked him to pay the amount which he is agreeing to but the PRO is delaying the process by not appearing at the lanour office.
Please advice what can be done his new company is dubai Jebel Ali Free Zone, can he further exrtend his visit visa, or is there any easier way to get the previous visa cancelled.
Really looking forward for a response.
He is really tensed please help on this regard.

Before canceling the visa you must cancel your wife visa. Please contact labour department and request their help

What if your family who is under your visa already went home to your country and been out of UAE for almost 1 year...is the visa automatically cancelled or do you need to go to Dubai DNRD and cancel them?

Shakir AK said...

No, it will not automatically cancel, you need to get their passport back and do the cancellation process at NRD. But note that your family cannot enter UAE, as they resided outside UA for more that 6 months. Shakir

when resident away from UAE more than 6 month automaticaly not permited to enter UAE. It is better to cancell the visa, bring the passport and submit for cancelation

Is any particular period for cancelling her visa?

Cancelling your visa , you must cancel your dependent visa or It is very clear that employee have to deposit a bank guarantee of 5,000 dirhams for each family member with the Department of Naturalisation and Residency NRD.

Good Day,
I want to ask a question regarding holding of my wife's visa.currently I am working in SAIF zone visa and got a new job in Abudhabi.I want to hold my wife's visa for one month so i can transfer it to new job, but when i went to SNRD (Sharjah Naturalization and Resindecy Department) one office of three stars said to me that I have to bring permission from SAIF zone then after that i can come to him and deposit 5000 AED and then he can hold the visa.
But the misconception is this that some people are saying that this holding visa rule is valid only in same emirate, not on other emirates.
Can anybody help me to resolve this issue.
Thanks.
Fahad

I have been quited intrested to learn new rules of UAE.
Hence i will answer most of the question:
Scenario:
You are on FREE ZONE & you are sponser of your wife and children

When you are working in 1 Emirates eg Dubai and Now when you got JOB is Abu Dhabi. You cannot hold visas for your dependents ( i have verified this with Imigration officer) he told me that if the JOB tranfer is in same emirates you have hold visa by paying 5k deposit. but once you transfer yourself to other emirates you need to cancell your dependents visa first and then make new visa for them.
